Activities
There is a folder in each cottage and a wide variety of leaflets in the laundry room with useful information on days out, local pubs, restaurants and theatres. There are plenty of walks and footpaths within easy reach of the cottages.
Local Villages
Glynde village has a very good local shop with a post office (approximately 1 mile) with Tearoom in the summer months. Glynde Place is an Elizabethan country house built of local flint and Caen stone. The house is open for a short period in the early summer, visit their website for opening times www.glynde.co.uk
Firle village (approximately 2.5 miles) has another village shop, post office and pub ‘The Ram’ which does very good food. At the heart of Firle is an outstanding privately owned country house that dates from the time of Henry VII but was substantially remodeled in the 18th Century. The historic county town of East Sussex is approximately 2 miles away and boasts a large selection of restaurants, pubs and antique shops. There are 3 supermarkets in Lewes, Waitrose, Aldi and Tesco as well as a good butchers and bakery’s. Find out What’s going on at www.visitlewes.co.uk

Places of interest
Within easy distance of our cottages can be found other famous places to visit such as Charleston (home of Vanessa Bell and the Bloomsbury group), Batemans (home of Rudyard Kipling), Pevensey Castle, Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre and Michelham Priory.
LEWES
This is an historic market town only 2 miles from us with many interesting buildings including a Norman castle and keep, a museum, Anne of Cleves’ house and Southover Grange gardens. Lewes also is home to an award winning 3-screen cinema, visit lewesdepot.org to find out what’s on.
The town has a varied choice of shops including some chain shops and also the local brewery (Harveys) with its own shop and pub/restaurant. There is an interesting old building known as “The Needlemakers” in which small artisan shops can be found. Lewes also has quite a number of antique shops.
BRIGHTON
The City of Brighton is only 8 miles away with an excellent range of shops and a large shopping mall. There are cinemas, bowling alley, the Theatre Royal, Brighton Centre and an infinite number of restaurants and bars.
The seafront and pier attract many visitors and there are other interesting places to visit such as The Royal Pavilion (an exotic oriental palace built for the Prince Regent – later George IV), and The Lanes which are narrow pedestrianized streets where many interesting shops can be found.
EASTBOURNE
A large town approximately 13 miles away with its own shopping centre, bowling alley and cinemas. There is a leisure pool too. The seafront is approximately 4 miles long overlooking beaches which are a mixture of pebbles and sand. Nearby are the famous chalk cliff landmarks of Beachy Head and The Seven Sisters.
DRUSILLAS ZOO
Drusillas Park is very popular with families and is close to the pretty little village of Alfriston, once the haunt of smugglers. The village has some lovely shops, tea shops and half-timbered buildings.
MIDDLE FARM
Middle Farm is a popular destination for all the family, there is a farm shop, cider and perry shop, open farm, butchery, deli, tearoom and gift shop situated just of the A27 in Firle. Visit www.middlefarm.com to find out more.
